Many of our international clients discover Platja d'Aro in summer and assume that, like most Mediterranean destinations, the town hibernates in winter. Nothing could be further from the truth. Christmas here reveals a completely different side: authentic Catalan traditions, fine dining, and a social life that continues uninterrupted.
As real estate specialists in the area, we know every detail of day-to-day life here. Here is our selection of what really makes a difference during the holidays 2025-2026.
The Atmosphere: A Mediterranean Christmas with Character
From November 15, Platja d'Aro lights up with a Christmas decoration that combines sophistication and tradition. The protagonist this year is the Túnel de Llum in Miramar street: 60 meters of light installation with daily musical shows. It is not the typical functional lighting; it is a visual experience that has become one of the most photographed spots on the Costa Brava.
The light and music shows are repeated every day (18:30h, 19:00h, 19:30h, and weekends also at 20:00h and 20:30h), creating a special atmosphere for evening strolls through the center.

El Tió de Nadal
If you have young children and this is your first Christmas in Catalonia, the Tió (or Caga Tió) is a unique tradition. It is a log that children "feed" during December and then "shit" presents when they hit it with sticks while singing specific songs. It sounds peculiar, but it is pure children's magic and an essential part of the Catalan Christmas.
You can participate in public events on December 21 in S'Agaró (Plaça de Sant Pol, 11:30h) or bring the tradition directly to your home.
The Gel Track (28 Nov - 7 Jan)
The Pista de Gel in Plaça dels Estanys has become the winter meeting point of the municipality. With 400 m² covered, it is where local and international families meet, creating that cosmopolitan atmosphere characteristic of Platja d'Aro.

Platja d'Aro organizes the New Year's Eve celebration in the Town Hall square with FlaixBac live: special program from 22:00h, official chimes at 00:00h with grapes and cotillion, and music until 00:15h.
It is a festive and safe way to welcome the year with a Mediterranean atmosphere. Many international families prefer it to private celebrations because the atmosphere is warm and cosmopolitan.
The Three Kings Parade - January 5, 2026
The definitive closing of the festivities. Platja d'Aro organizes its Cavalcade at 18:00h (start at Av. de S'Agaró, closing at Palau d'Esports at 19:00h).
Important detail: there is a tram silenciós from 18:00-18:05h in Av. Juli Garreta with light and sound reduction for people with autism or hypersensitivity. This kind of details reflect the sensitivity and level of the municipality.
Castell d'Aro has its own parade at 20:00h.

Sports Activities: The Active Spirit of the Costa Brava
Winter Golf
The golf courses in the area (Golf d'Aro-Mas Nou and nearby) remain open with impeccable conditions. December and January mornings are especially pleasant: mild temperatures (10-15°C), fewer players, and unobstructed views of the Mediterranean.
Primer Bany de l'Any - January 1
10 minutes away in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, the traditional First Bath of the Year is celebrated at 13:00h, followed by hot broth and chocolate. It is an invigorating tradition that brings together more and more participants from all over the Costa Brava. It is not mandatory to jump into the water: the atmosphere on the beach that day is festive and worth the walk.
Why Winter Matters Here
When we evaluate properties for international clients, one of the aspects they value most - especially the French, British and Germans - is real year-round living. They don't want to buy a house that only makes sense three months of the summer.
Christmas in Platja d'Aro shows why this area works in all seasons:
Balanced climate: Temperatures of 10-15°C during the day. Nothing to do with the extreme cold of northern Europe, but neither the oppressive heat. Perfect for walks, golf, or just enjoying the terrace.
Stores and operational services: The commercial axis does not close. Restaurants, stores, supermarkets, pharmacies... everything keeps reasonable hours. You don't have the feeling of a sleepy town.
Active international community: The cosmopolitan atmosphere is maintained. On the gel rink, in the restaurants, at the Pessebre Vivent.... you hear French, English, German, Russian. This cultural mix that characterizes Platja d'Aro does not disappear in winter.
Authentic local culture: The Catalan traditions (Pessebre Vivent, Tió, Cabalgata) are not touristy set-ups. They are events with decades of history where local neighbors and families participate. You connect with something real.
Accessibility: Girona airport is 30 minutes away, Barcelona 1h15. Receiving visitors during the holidays is easy.
Practical Information
Reservations: For the Pessebre Vivent, restaurants such as Candlelight, or any specific activity, please reserve at least two weeks in advance.
Parking: During key events (lights switch-on, Cabalgata), the center gets crowded. Public parking lots near the Palau d'Esports are the best option.
Languages: The international atmosphere means that most establishments speak English, French and German, as well as Spanish and Catalan.
