What to do in playa de aro in february?

What to do in Playa de Aro in February? It is a month when things happen, even if it is low season for to go swimming at the beach, for example. To begin with, there are two important dates in February to justify an escape to this part of the Catalan coast: Valentine’s Day and Carnival. The first is a romantic getaway for two, and the other is pure fun that invites you to rent an apartment with family or friends. Two concepts, two escapes, one destination: Playa de Aro, Costa Brava.
The climate in Playa de Aro, as in many towns on the Catalan coast, is pleasant at this time of year. The average temperature is between 12º and 17ºC, and there is good percentage of sunny days. It is a good time to take walks on the beach, sunbathe and eat tapas on the terraces… The baths in the sea will come later. This quiet month with almost spring days is to be enjoyed without hurry. The residents in Playa de Aro enjoy these dates, and the visitors who are on a vacation on the Costa Brava as well.
Romantic getaway to Costa Brava for Valentine’s Day
When Valentine’s Day falls on a Friday, and you are lucky enough to have someone to share a romantic getaway with, the Costa Brava is a good choice to rent an apartment for a few days. With the weather almost springtime, the restaurants, terrace, gastronomy and the spectacular blue sea coves are ideal places to share with your partner. The Camí de Ronda crosses beautiful corners of this part of the Catalan coast, like Cala Sa Conca and Cala del Pi in Platja d’Aro which offer a beautiful landscape to walk and surprise the person you love. The restaurants offer gastronomic specialties and wines from the Empordà that will make the evening unforgettable.
Exhibition of local artists at the castle of Castell d’Aro on the Costa Brava
Any excuse is good to visit the collective exhibition of painting, drawing and sculpture by local artists, including works by internationally renowned artists. This exhibition will be held from 1 to 23 February at the Castell de Benedormiens. Organised by the Department of Culture of the Castell-Platja d’Aro Town Council, the exhibition can also be visited at weekends. Free entrance.
Playa de Aro Carnival, the carnival of carnivals!
A good way to enjoy the Costa Brava with children, or with friends, is to get close during the Carnival dates. These festivities are celebrated during ten days, being the weekend of the Great Carnival Parade in Playa de Aro, the highlight of the festivities. The Platja d’Aro Carnival has been held for over 40 years, and this year 2020 it celebrates its 43rd edition from 15 to 26 February.
The carriages stand out every year for their quality and originality, surpassing themselves year after year. The participating groups are from Castell-Platja d’Aro, S’Agaró, Sant Feliu de Guíxols and Santa Cristina d’Aro. All these towns on the Costa Brava take part in the carnival, which runs through each of them.
The Carnival starts on the weekend of February 15-16 with the Carnival Collar Dinner and the Change of Attributes between the Carnival Kings. Sunday 16th is dedicated to those who spend a few days on the Costa Brava with children, as children’s parties predominate for the younger ones.
The following days are full of gastronomic and popular activities: sausages, gymkanas, parades, music… until the Great Carnival Parade in Platja d’Aro, on Saturday 22nd February. Among other activities, a Popular Rice is prepared for 1,000 diners, and in the evening there is a Platja d’Aro Mobile Party and the Great Carnival Parade. A day full of colours and music, which culminates in the Palau d’Esports i Congressos de Platja d’Aro with the awards ceremony for the participating categories: Best Large Chariot, Best Small Chariot, Costume and Local Collas.
The Carnival ends with the Burial of the Sardine on Wednesday 26 February, after which there will be a popular sardine festival. These festivities, which flood the centre of Playa de Aro with colour and joy, are attended by an increasing number of people, both the inhabitants of villages on the Costa Brava and those who spend these days in apartments in Playa de Aro or on holiday rentals on the Costa Brava.
