To live and eat in Playa de Aro in winter
The winter activities that we have at our disposal are very different depending on the date of year in which we are. Even so, we always have many alternatives to enjoy each season in the place where we live or if we consider spending a few days out of town. After the summer, the Costa Brava becomes a quiet place, which means that live and eat in Playa de Aro, during the winter, can offer other attractions that are worth discovering.
The Costa Brava is also known for its biodiversity and natural heritage that has made the territory a protected area with an interesting mix of flora, fauna and natural spaces that contain thousands of species. This is the case of Cap de Creus, the Montgrí Natural Park and the Medas Islands. The coastal villages and their charming houses, located between sea and mountains, offer a natural and quality lifestyle.
The luxury villas in Costa Brava and farmhouses (masías) for sale in Residencial Mas Nou are surrounded by green spaces, in exclusive areas from where you can enjoy the natural landscape. As the real estate professionals of Playa de Aro know well, the landscape is the first thing that enters through the eyes of the biodiversity of the Costa Brava, but there is also another part that we enjoy as much as, or more: gastronomy.
The best restaurants in Playa de Aro and its surroundings
From seafood restaurants to international fusion cuisine, traditional Catalan cuisine and wineries with an interesting assortment of locally produced wines, the gastronomic offer of Playa de Aro is a good way to enjoy those winter pleasures that the heat and the rush of summer do not allow us to enjoy.
The ¨spoon dishes¨ are part of the traditional and most authentic Catalan cuisine, which can only be tasted at certain times of the year. In coastal villages, on the seafront, the speciality, that can never be missing, is fish and seafood at any time of year. Here we present a selection with some examples, but there are many more:
- Traditional Catalan food and excellent wine cellar: The restaurant Els Tinars, located on the road to Llagostera, just a quarter of an hour’s drive from the urbanization Mas Nou Playa de Aro. This restaurant is located in an old restored farmhouse, using the fresh and autochthonous product with Mediterranean recipes that combine the traditional Catalan cuisine with the creativity of avant-garde dishes. The Chicken Canelones with Jabugo béchamel, mushrooms and crispy skin or its traditional Caracoles a la llauna (snails to the tin) are two good examples of its menu. Its varied gastronomic offer is completed with a good selection of wines and an attentive service. Its Michelin star endorses it as one of the best restaurants on the Costa Brava out of season.
- Quality homemade Mediterranean food: The Restaurant Llevant is a classic of the area, located in Playa de Aro. It is a cozy restaurant that works all-year-round, with varied food and also with a possibility to take away, it meets the expectations of both the occasional visitor and Residencial Mas Nou customers who live near the area and seek quality without sophistication. From Mediterranean cuisine, it has a wide dishes range from pizzas to meats, made with quality product, offering a wide variety of dishes and group menu.
- Local seafood and rice dishes: Before becoming an international tourist destination, Playa de Aro was a fishing village, like most of the towns on the Costa Brava coast. It is difficult to choose between so many restaurants that offer seafood dishes on their menu. Among the most popular and praised, we suggest the seafood restaurant Sa Marinada, in Sant Feliu de Guíxols. In addition to fresh seafood and local produce, they have a varied menu of seafood tapas and fish rice dishes. Its central location and daily work menu, throughout the year, make it an excellent option for those who decide to live and eat in Playa de Aro in winter.
- Signature´s kitchen in a charming farmhouse (masía): To taste different gastronomic specialities with local products is a good option for making contact with the culinary variety of the Costa Brava. In Romanyà, a little more than ten minutes by road from the urbanization Mas Nou Playa de Aro, there is the Restaurant Can Roquet. Food of fusion, creativity and with international influences. The restaurant of this restored country house in Costa Brava from the 17th century has a Michelin star for the quality of the dishes of the chef and co-owner Donald de Ridder.
As you can see by the characteristics of some of the best restaurants, the rustic villas and farmhouses for sale are an option not only to live and eat in Playa de Aro in winter. They can also be used as a tourism-oriented business on the Costa Brava, or for catering as is the case with our selection. The traditional Catalan cuisine, in an enclave like the Costa Brava, is a double gastronomic experience when tasted in a charming place. It is above all the typical winter food that is most enjoyed in this type of restaurants located in farmhouses (masías), a type of housing very far from the style of the typical Costa Brava villa. They are two styles of housing that coexist in the same area, precisely for this special combination of beach and forest in a perfect harmony.
In Residencial Mas Nou we value this contrast, and offer from the most modern villas located in the residential area of the urbanization Mas Nou Playa de Aro, to the farmhouses for sale located towards the interior of Playa de Aro.
